With your own personal code, you can enter your home with just a few simple pushes of a button—and you can easily and securely lock it with just one. In addition to personal code settings, you can assign a temporary code to whoever needs one—in-laws, babysitters, dog walkers, household help—and delete it when you see fit. Operation is also simple: to lock, press the lock button just once; to open, just enter the code on the keypad and the deadbolt will automatically retract. To program your first user code, press the program button on the interior unit once, enter a four- to eight-digit code into the keypad, and press the lock button to save it. (Follow the same instructions for programming the second user code, except press the program button twice.)

Simple Installation and Re-Keying
In addition to the touchpad electronic deadbolt, the Signature Series Powerbolt features Kwikset’s SmartKey re-key technology, allowing you to exercise strict control over who has access to your home. The SmartKey cylinders feature a stainless steel side locking bar, racks, and pins for increased strength and security, and patented side locking bar technology offers improved security by protecting against lock bumping, an attack technique used to defeat conventional pin and tumbler locks.

Kwikset’s patented pre-assembled design guarantees hassle-free installation—all you need is a Phillips screwdriver. You can re-key your lock in three easy steps: Insert the functioning key and turn it 1/4 turn clockwise; insert and remove the SmartKey learn tool and remove the functioning key; insert the new key and turn it 1/2 turn counter clockwise. The lock will then be re-keyed without the hassle and cost of replacing the entire lock or removing it from your door. All of this allows you to feel confident in providing temporary access to neighbors, babysitters, contractors, and household help, knowing that any lost, loaned, or unreturned keys become useless.

Can not suggest this lock, look else where. Read the other reviews, my expereince is the same. The unit failed within 1 year, while it worked, it was great, we could set up a second entry code for our friends or house guest and not have to worry about getting a key back from them. But at last, the unit started beeping on it own then kills the batteries within 24 hours. It’s obviously a design flaw. The real pain in the butt is that you have to drill holes into your door to install this unit. Holes that won’t be covered by any other door lock on the market. So when this unit fails,(which is highly likely) you’ll be face with replacing your door or finding an exact replacement. I have a metal door, I might be able to take it somewhere and have it fixed. What a PITA.This is an old model that you should avoid. The newer models are much smaller so you won’t have to drill the 5 extra holes this one takes. It will cost you more but will be worth it. I hope this helps you, please take the time to write…

Why I believe a lack of knowledge resulted in most of the criticizim of these locks. If you have one of these locks already installed on your door and would like to be able to use it, this may be of help.I owned 2 of these locks and just purchased the third for my basement door.I purchased the first one 10 years ago and it still works great. On average the batteries on the front door last 9 to 10 months, and on the back door twice as long(18-20 months) as it does not get as much use [I only use Copper Top batteries].While it is possible that any device could be defective, I would guess when they were tested that at least 95 % of the locks people complained about were working properly, but a lack of knowledge due in-part to what I consider poor technical writing, and in-part to ignorance [that is not meant as a put down, as I believe we are all ignorant of many things, even the most intelligent people alive].>One repeated complaint was the lock would not unlock. What the manufacturer failed to explain was that the locking and unlocking…
